Visitor Visa Document Checklist

Purpose of This Checklist

This checklist is an organising aid based on the document categories described in the Department of Home Affairs application guidance. It is not a substitute for the personalised checklist generated in ImmiAccount or any request sent by the Department.

The documents needed vary by applicant, stream, location, family composition and answers in the application. Do not upload irrelevant personal information merely because it appears on a general checklist.

• Passport, identity and change-of-name records
• Purpose of visit, itinerary and intended length of stay
• Evidence of funds for the visit and departure
• Invitation or sponsor documents where relevant to the stream
• Evidence supporting a temporary visit, including ties and reasons to return
• Travel history and any requested health or character material
• Consent, birth and welfare documents for applicants under 18
• English translations for non-English documents

Preparing Files

Follow the file format and size instructions shown in ImmiAccount. Scans and photographs should be in colour, clear and legible. Multi-page documents should be kept together where the upload instructions require it.

Documents not in English need an English translation. The Department's rules distinguish between translations prepared in Australia and overseas, so check the current visa page before arranging translation.

• Check that names, dates and document numbers are consistent across the application.
• Include change-of-name evidence where relevant.
• Keep original files and a copy of everything submitted.
• Do not submit altered, false or misleading documents or information.

Before Lodgement

Open the current visa page, select the correct stream and work through its step-by-step instructions. Use any official Document Checklist Tool and the checklist shown in ImmiAccount.

Check the current application charge, passport validity, location requirements, visa conditions and whether any time limit applies. A complete application can still take time and no generic checklist can guarantee an outcome.
